Without doubts, the Quran is great. And it stands out and fends for itself by Allah’s will.
How unfortunate is the person who fails to read and listen to the words of his Creator? And what excuse would be enough for doing so?
If the true value of the Holy Qur’an was understood, don’t you think the Muslims of the world would not be where they are today?
Yet this great living miracle lies abandoned in our libraries, bookshelves, or even in a beautifully created casing; gathering dust from lack of use.
This is why when we will be brought to account for our deeds and misdeeds on the Day of Judgment; we will have no reason to say that we were not adequately guided because we are the ones who did not take the readily available guidance.
So right now, I want us to look at some of the benefits of surah yasin. This surah is ‘makki’ and it has 83 verses. By Makki, it means it was revealed in Mecca.
Forgiveness of Sins
It is written in the commentary of Majma’ul Bayan whoever recites Surah Yaseen solely for seeking the pleasure of Allah (s.w.t.), all his sins will be forgiven and he will be given the reward equal to the reward of reciting the whole Qur’an 12 times.
It benefits the dying soul
If this surah is recited near a person on his deathbed, then for each letter recited, 12 angels are sent to pray for his forgiveness and they remain even when the soul is being taken by the Angel of Death. The angels also take part in his funeral rites.
Makes ease for the dying soul
If recited near a person who is on the verge of passing away (Sakarat-ul-Mawt), then an angel brings a drink for the dying person from Jannah and as he drinks of it, he feels greatly eased.
It is a key to all goodness in life and hereafter
In another narration, this surah has been described as the key to all good in this life and in the hereafter and a safety from all evil in this life and in the hereafter. Needs are fulfilled if asked after the recitation of this surah and the reward for its recitation is also compared to performing twenty hajj pilgrimages.
Cures thousand types of illnesses
Drinking the water in which this surah has been dissolved cures one of a thousand types of illnesses. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) said that everything has its heart and the heart of the Holy Qur’an is Surah Yasin.
Reduces punishment for the dead ones
He (s.a.w.) also said that if this surah is recited in a graveyard then all punishment is lifted, for that day, from all the graves and the reciter gets the reward equal to the sum of all the good actions performed by all those who are buried in that graveyard.
Protection from Satan and all problems
It is narrated from Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s.) that whoever recited this surah in the morning will be protected from all calamities and problems during the day and whoever recites it at night will be protected from Shaitan by seventy thousand angels.
Saves one from the squeezing of the grave
Recitation of this surah saves one from the squeezing of the grave and its other torments. Passing the difficult stages in the hereafter will also be made easy for him.
As a protection from people
Keeping this surah in one’s possession as a talisman acts as a protection from the jealousy of people. The wearer remains safe from the evil designs of men and Jinn. It also acts as a cure for diseases.
May Allah grant us all these benefits upon our recitation of surah Yasin.
