Surah al-Ahzab (“The Clans, The Coalition, The Combined Forces”) is the 33rd sūrah of the Qur’an with 73 ayat. The sūrah takes its name from the mention of the parties (al-aḥzāb), or confederates (an alliance among the Quraysh and other tribes), who fought the Muslims at the Battle of the Trench (5/627), also known as the Battle of the Parties and as the Siege of Madinah.
- In the commentary of Majma’ul Bayan it is narrated from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) that whoever recites surah al-Ahzab and also teaches it to his family members, he will be saved from the torment of the grave.
- Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s.) has said that the reward for reciting this surah often is countless and the one who does so will be under the protection of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) and his progeny on the Day of Reckoning.
